Some Quantitative Limits For Disaster Risk and Equity Premium Estimates

With 87 years of volatile stock return data, disaster-risk models operate in a narrow band between an ability to lower the equity premium from the historical geometric 5.9% per annum to a more model-appealing 4%, and an equity premium that can no longer be distinguished from zero (risk neutrality) at conventional statistical significance levels. Available below-the-money index option prices lim...

On quantitative versions of theorems due to

This paper is another case study in the program of logically analyzing proofs to extract new (typically effective) information (‘proof mining’). We extract explicit uniform rates of metastability (in the sense of T. Tao) from two ineffective proofs of a classical theorem of F.E. Browder on the convergence of approximants to fixed points of nonexpansive mappings as well as from a proof of a theo...

On linear versions of some addition theorems

Let K ⊂ L be a field extension. Given K-subspaces A,B of L, we study the subspace 〈AB〉 spanned by the product set AB = {ab | a ∈ A, b ∈ B}. We obtain some lower bounds on dimK〈AB〉 and dimK〈B 〉 in terms of dimK A, dimK B and n. This is achieved by establishing linear versions of constructions and results in additive number theory mainly due to Kemperman and Olson.

Ideal versions of some combinatorial results

We characterize ideals of subsets of natural numbers for which some versions of Ramsey’s theorem and Schur’s theorem hold. These are similar to generalizations shown by Frankl, Graham and Rödl in [6]. We show that, in some sense, Ramsey’s theorem, theorem of Bolzano-Weierstrass and “monotone subsequence” theorem characterize the same class of ideals.

Some subrecursive versions of Grzegorczyk's Uniformity Theorem

A theorem published by A. Grzegorczyk in 1955 states a certain kind of effective uniform continuity of computable functionals that transform systems of total functions in the set of the natural numbers and of natural numbers into natural numbers. Namely, for any such functional a computable functional with one function-argument and the same number-arguments exists such that the values of the fi...
